Dr. Patterson, born and raised in Lancaster, and Dr. Votilla, a Lancaster resident for over 25 years, have studied and trained at some of the finest institutions in the world including The Pankey Institute in Florida. Upon completion of his undergraduate studies (B.A., English Literature) at the University of Pittsburgh, Dr. Patterson began his dental training at Temple University´s School of Dentistry. It was during his first year at Temple that he and Dr. Votilla met and became fast friends.
After earning his Doctor of Dental Medicine in 1985, he served for three years in the United States Navy, at NAS Pensacola, Florida. His experiences were many and his further education rigorous. His patients included the elite Blue Angels flight demonstration team, among others, and Dr. Patterson served aboard the historic aircraft carrier, U.S.S. Lexington. While on shore, he was selected to advance his training in Periodontics, Prosthodontics and Oral Surgery. He trained in Forensic Dentistry at Eglin Air Force Base and at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology.
Dr. Patterson and his family returned to Lancaster in 1988 to enter private practice. With an unswerving commitment to stay at the leading edge of his profession, Dr. Patterson has aggressively pursued continuing education and training, both for himself and his staff. He returns on a regular basis to the prestigious L.D. Pankey Institiute to further his training.
Dr. Patterson´s areas of special interest include Preventive Dentistry, Dental Implantology, Dental Aesthetics and Forensic Dentistry. Currently, he serves as the Forensic Dentist for The Duffy´s Cut Project.
He is an active member in the American Dental Association, and was chosen to be profiled by the organization. You can find his profile at www.ada.org. He also maintains active memberships in the American Academy of Oral Medicine, the Academy of General Dentistry, the Lancaster County Dental Society, the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the American Academy of ImplantDentistry, and the American Society of Forensic Odontology.
Both Dr. Patterson and his wife, the former Sarah Breneman, are native Lancastrians. They share interests in music, athletics and the arts. They have three children and are active in the Lancaster community.
Dr. Votilla studied biology at the University of Dayton, graduating in 1981. He earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine from Temple University´s School of Dentistry four years later. He relocated to Lancaster in 1987, attracted by the wonderful people and bucolic lifestyle. He has been providing stellar dental care to his patients for 23 years.
Dr. Votilla maintains active memberships in the American Academy of General Dentistry, the American Dental Association, the Pennsylvania Dental Association, the Lancaster County Dental Society, and the Lancaster Chapter of the Seattle Study Club. He has pursued significant advanced training both at the prestigious L.D. Pankey Institute and the Dawson Center for Advanced Dental Education. Dr. Votilla has completed advanced hands on training for aesthetic dentistry through the Aesthetic Advantage Program at New York University´s School of Dentistry.
His chief areas of concentration are Dental Aesthetics, Dental Implantology, and the Invisalign System. Dr. Votilla thoroughly enjoys providing individualized, comprehensive care and the relationships he´s been able to establish with his patients while doing so.
Dr. Votilla resides in Lancaster with his three children. In his free time he enjoys playing golf and spending time with family and friends.
L.D. Pankey Institute
Dr. Patterson and Dr. Votilla have completed advanced training at The L.D. Pankey Institute in Florida. Not only does The Pankey Institute teach state-of-the art dentistry, but it also focuses on personal interaction with patients. This includes an emphasis on treating patients as individuals and taking adequate time to listen to patients' concerns, answer questions completely, and provide personalized treatment options based on patients' needs. The Pankey Institute has trained over 21,000 dentists, dental laboratory technicians, and specialists since its inception in 1972.
